THE STORY BEHIND
ALLY LOVES PAJAMAS
ALL GOOD IDEAS START SOMEWHERE
When our daughter, Alyssa was 3 she was obsessed with pajamas. It was a challenge some days to get her to change into other clothes. One night during our routine bedtime story I decided to share with her a tale of my own; about a girl and her funny fascination with pajamas.

As I laid in bed my thoughts kept wandering back to her giggles and I felt the urge to write it down. I decided to share it with my husband, Paul and asked if he could illustrate it for me - the thought was to create a book as a keepsake for Alyssa.

We sat down and I brainstormed all my ideas for the illustrations as he jotted down notes. Days later he showed me a few of his preliminary drawings. His images captured all the scenes from the story so perfectly that I knew it was definitely something other kids would enjoy reading.

This was the start of our book journey, and for myself, finally fulfilling a dream of becoming an author.

The story can spark dialogue... about a number of things really. Pajamas of course, but also about the kinds of things that bring you comfort, make you feel better when you're feeling down, things that give you a warm and cozy feeling. In school we talk so much about mindfulness and help students tune into their feelings and the things in their life that bring them joy and comfort.

I love it! Such a wonderful story and so fun and light-hearted, a real breath of fresh air...I think it works really well and it can help the reader to be imaginative too and maybe realize things they didn’t before – that pajamas make them think of certain things or feel comforted or imagine being a vet etc. It’s fabulous and it does make me want to know what else Ally will love next and where her imagination will take her!
